DESCRIPTION:

Vassar College is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college situated in Poughkeepsie, New York. Founded as a women's college in 1861, it was the first member of the Seven Sisters to become coeducational. U.S. News & World Report ranks it #12 among liberal arts programs in the United States.

"The multidisciplinary program in Science, Technology, and Society is designed to enable students to pursue three objectives: a) to better understand the central role of science and technology in the emergence of advanced industrial society; b) to consider the social, political, philosophical, and cultural implications of the human experience in a technological society; and c) to explore possible directions of future development, using alternative social theories and perceptions" (quoted from the Vassar STS Program's Web site).
